What is Outpatient Care?
Outpatient treatment is less-intensive than inpatient treatment as it typically takes place for significantly less time throughout the week. While inpatient treatment usually takes place 24 hours a day for the whole week, outpatient services provide mental health treatment for part of the day before allowing patients to return home in the evenings.
An intensive outpatient program (IOP) may take place for just a few hours per day for a few days throughout the week, while a partial hospitalization program (PHP) may take place for most of the day for the entire week. Both levels provide treatment that may include group, individual and family therapies and are designed to help you take positive steps forward.
